  1. I have severe reflux (GERD) and got the pillow several weeks ago to help myself sleep at night.

I was worried that it would be hard to sleep on, and seven inches tall seemed like a bit of a slant. But, it is made of a quite compressible hypoallergenic polyureathane foam that compresses down from seven inches to perhaps four when you are resting on it, and I had a good night’s sleep, even the first night. The soft material is very comfortable, and my reflux is vastly improved. Having used it for several weeks, I don’t expect to ever go back to a regular pillow.

Unfortunately, the pillow had a strong polyureathane chemical smell when it showed up. The smell was strong enough that it was unuseable. I brought it to bed briefly, but my wife insisted that I get it out of her bed, and I agreed.

The next day I washed the polyureathane foam in the bathtub with mild soap and water and wrung it out with my hands as best as I could. You can’t machine dry polyureathane (it disintegrates), so I left it outside in the 85 degree California sun. After two days, I could still wring water out of it — it wasn’t getting dry. I then covered it with beach towels, and rolled it up tight using my knees. After repeating this three times with dry towels, it was noticeably lighter (less water trapped inside). I let it air dry for another day and called it done.

That did the trick, and now I use the pillow every night.

It is a very comfortable pillow and has solved my reflux issues. I am glad to have it, I just wish it was useable right out of the box.

Edit: MedSlant contacted me when they heard of the difficulties I had. They offered to send me a new pillow and expressed surprise — they have had less than 10 complaints about odor in their 3 years of selling these pillows. I turned down the new pillow (mine smells fine now) and thanked them. Then they refunded my purchase (I never even asked!). They were very polite and I could not ask for a better customer support experience!

I have been sleeping on the Medslant pillow for about a month now and can’t imagine sleeping without it. It has drastically reduced my nighttime reflux and has generally improved the quality of my sleep. I find that I fall asleep much faster and am much more comfortable.

The case is wonderful for travel. I wish I had gotten the Medslant with the allergan cover instead of the standard pillowcase, since I love the pillow so much.

I was immediately adjusted to sleeping on this pillow and can’t imagine life without it.

I bought this pillow due to my suffering with GERD – a common problem. I have found that it has helped greatly with my acid pain at night. It hasn’t eliminated it, but it makes it more bearable. It took me about a week to get used to this pillow. The first few days were somewhat difficult, as it is much different than normal sleeping positions we are used to. However, it is now a habit, and I use it every night. One thing I noticed is that the pillow cover isn’t as sturdy as I would have liked and has completely torn in one corner after a year’s regular use (making it difficult to use). So, I just bought 4 more replacement covers. I recommend getting replacement covers with your initial order. However, I’d prefer that the company make the cover a little more durable with the corner stitching. It would also be helpful for them to offer a wider pillow option. I am not unusually large or overweight, but I could use a little more room in the width area while tossing and turning throughout the night. Otherwise, I am very happy with this product.

  4. I’ve been sleeping on this wedge for 3 months now after having been diagnosed with a small hiatal hernia. I’m a large fellow at 6’3″ and 270+ pounds and would have preferred a somewhat stiffer wedge. But I consider this a reasonable compromise to spending 1000s on an adjustable bed. It is large enough that I don’t slide off it while tossing and turning occasionally at night. The packaging that comes with it will double as a travel bag to carry it on trips. The pillow folds onto itself to make a nice square object about the size of a small suitcase so it’s not awkward to lug around when you travel – yet the wedge itself when unfolded is large enough to accommodate my large frame. Overall a good product that has so far been effective for me.

I had my first serious episode of acid reflux a few weeks ago, and although I tried PPI therapy as well as strict diet and lifestyle modifications, I was still experiencing some reflux symptoms at night. The only thing that I didn’t try was elevating my upper body at night, mostly because I didn’t want to make my husband sleep on a slanted bed. I decided to give this pillow a try, and it’s made a huge difference! I’ve been symptom-free ever since I began sleeping on the pillow, and I’ve been able to reduce the amount of antacid medication that I take. To me, it’s not as comfortable as sleeping without any elevation, but it’s certainly comfortable enough to get a good night’s sleep. For those struggling with chronic heartburn, this product is definitely worth a try.
